ManageEngine Offers New ServiceDesk Plus Pricing to Step Up ITIL Adoption

Posted on 03:23 by Unknown
Those interested in getting in on ManageEngine's (News - Alert) ServiceDesk Plus system have a whole new option, as ManageEngine announced a new pricing structure that should make ServiceDesk Plus more attractive to both small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) as well as full enterprise-level users alike.

ServiceDesk Plus is a help desk software package that takes advantage of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) system to improve IT service management by bringing it more in line with what businesses need. Focusing on five key disciplines, ITIL offers a set of dogmas—procedures, tasks, checklists and the like—that aren't specific to one organization, but can be used across a wider body of industries to ensure that what's going on in the IT services proves useful. This allows IT organizations to not only provide better services that deal with what's needed, but also removes some of the static by getting things that only work in certain cases out of the toolbox. This helps lower costs and improve the overall level of service.

ManageEngine Calls for Real-Time IT Management at Oracle OpenWorld

Posted on 23:54 by Unknown
SAN FRANCISCO & PLEASANTON, Calif., Oct 02, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- --OpManager: Real-time IT performance monitoring
--Password Manager Pro: Records privileged sessions to protect against insider threats
--DeviceExpert: CMDB integration for holistic, completely consolidated NCCM
--Stop by booth #100 to see Applications Manager support for Oracle environments

Oracle OpenWorld -- ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today debuted key product portfolio enhancements to Oracle OpenWorld 2012 attendees. In addition to its flagship network monitoring software (NMS), OpManager, the company has upgraded its network configuration and change management (NCCM) solution, DeviceExpert, and enterprise password management software, Password Manager Pro. The moves renew the ManageEngine call for real-time IT management of business critical applications and services running in Oracle shops.
ManageEngine will showcase the latest upgrades along with Applications Manager and the rest of its integrated IT management portfolio in booth #100 at Oracle OpenWorld 2012, being held September 30-October 4, 2012, at Moscone Center in San Francisco.

IT environments are growing more complex, requiring new tools and approaches to ensure an optimal response to enterprise needs. Without real-time responsiveness and end-to-end visibility into all aspects of the enterprise infrastructure, IT can suffer huge losses that damage a company's share and brand value. By providing Oracle shops with a real-time, single-pane-of-glass approach to IT management, real-time IT maintains an optimum end-user experience in the face of increasing complexity.

"Oracle OpenWorld is the perfect venue for championing the real-time IT management message," said Raj Sabhlok, president of ManageEngine. "Oracle users subject their infrastructure to some of the industry's most extreme performance, security and uptime demands. And we've engineered our product set to meet those demands across the board. From applications management to network management and NCCM to traffic analytics and integrated IT management, we continue to set -- and reset -- the bar for our customers."

ManageEngine at Oracle OpenWorld

At Oracle OpenWorld, ManageEngine will highlight the latest enhancements to its network monitoring, NCCM and password management solutions:

-- OpManager gains real-time performance monitoring (beta) - OpManager now includes an agent that monitors Windows services, processes and event logs of mission-critical applications such as Exchange, SQL and IIS -- all in real time. In turn, any fault or performance issue immediately raises an alarm in OpManager to help identify IT issues the moment they arise and troubleshoot as soon as possible. OpManager is the first enterprise network monitoring product outside of HP, IBM and CA software to offer per-second monitoring. Agents for Linux and Mac will be added later.

-- DeviceExpert facilitates integration with CMDB for completely consolidated NCCM - New REST APIs enable third-party software to directly integrate with DeviceExpert and add, access and extract data. Moreover, the APIs facilitate DeviceExpert integration with an enterprise Configuration Management Database (CMDB), so users can leverage network monitoring, configuration management, and change control in complete alignment with the enterprise CMDB, keeping it up to date with respect to device configurations and resulting in better management of network assets. This functionality is also extended to the OpManager NCCM plug-in, which helps IT teams accelerate fault remediation through workflow-driven network automation.

-- Password Manager Pro adds privileged session recording (beta) - Privileged sessions launched from Password Manager Pro can now be video recorded, archived and played back to support forensic audits. By monitoring all actions performed by privileged accounts during privileged sessions, enterprises can counter threats to information security that arise from outside as well as inside the corporate firewall. The new feature reinforces the software's existing internal control capabilities and its ability to secure, manage and monitor all activities associated with the entire lifecycle of privileged passwords, including those of Oracle DB servers, in fully automated fashion.
In addition, ManageEngine will demonstrate the rest of its real-time IT management portfolio at the show, including:

-- Applications Manager is application performance monitoring software that helps businesses ensure high availability and performance for their business applications by ensuring servers and applications have high uptime. It comes with out-of-the-box support for 50+ application servers, servers, databases and transactions spanning physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. For Oracle users, Applications Manager supports monitoring of Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle WebLogic and Oracle Application Server, Oracle and MySQL databases and Oracle JRockit JVM.

-- NetFlow Analyzer is a powerful traffic analytics, bandwidth monitoring and network forensics tool offering capabilities such as IP SLA reporting, QoS reporting, Medianet reporting, WAAS reporting, IPv6 support and more. It has also passed the interoperability verification testing for IP SLA, WAAS, NetFlow and Medianet monitoring and is certified 'Cisco Compatible.'

-- IT360 provides a dashboard that delivers a 360-degree view across IT to proactively monitor performance. It is designed to monitor and manage IT infrastructures for medium and large enterprises, and it adds a business context to monitoring IT resources to help the various stakeholders understand the impact of downtimes on the business. IT360 comprises network performance, server and application performance, database performance, and end-user experience management for IT operations and an ITIL helpdesk for IT service management, all in one product. In addition to direct use by enterprises, IT360 is also available for MSPs who offer IT management-as-a-service.

Real-time performance monitoring is available immediately in the beta release of OpManager. Network automation is available immediately in the beta release of the latest NCM plug-in for OpManager. LANDesk survey reveals just 20% of IT service desks can adequately manage all mobile devices used by employees for work

Posted on 03:17 by Unknown
LONDON - September 3, 2012 - New research by LANDesk Software reveals that while employee use of smart mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets for work is widespread, only half of IT service desk managers can manage the use of company owned devices, and this falls to around 20% when personal devices are considered.

The research, which surveyed 200 IT professionals in the UK between May and July 2012, found that 80% of companies issue smart devices to employees and 60% are aware that personal devices access the company network.

When it comes to ability to manage such devices, 47% are able to tell what company-owned devices connect to their network and a similar number have a strategy or policy governing their use. When personal devices are also considered the ability to see them on the network remains relatively high at 43% but only 23% have a strategy or policy governing their use.

IT Customers Weather “Summer of Hackers” Protected by ManageEngine Password Manager Pro

Posted on 07:32 by Unknown
  • Password Manager Pro secures physical, virtual, cloud assets for 2,000+ customers
  • Password Manager Pro now manages privileged passwords for VMware vSphere®
  • Download fully functional, free 30-day evaluation edition at http://ow.ly/9xwpb
VMworld US 2012

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today announced that its enterprise password management software, Password Manager Pro, is securely storing and managing passwords for more than 2,000 customers and improving the overall security and security-related productivity as well as protecting privileged identities.

“Passwords are the keys to the kingdom, and it’s our job to secure it against all threats, including criminal hacks”
Out-of-the-box support for managing privileged passwords of VMware vSphere® now helps organizations rapidly deploy an enterprise-grade password management solution and take control of their data center security. ManageEngine will be demonstrating Password Manager Pro and its IT management suite in booth 2340 at VMworld® 2012 in San Francisco from August 26-30.

Multiple, high-profile security breaches have turned the past few months into the “Summer of Hackers,” exposing privileged information in millions of user accounts. Weak passwords and password management contribute to the problem by making it easier for hackers to access password-protected assets. In response, more companies are turning to password management software, automating extreme security without imposing extreme hardship on users who would otherwise have to memorize or manually manage their passwords.

“Passwords are the keys to the kingdom, and it’s our job to secure it against all threats, including criminal hacks,” says Rajesh Ganesan, director of product management at ManageEngine. “The best passwords are dynamic and hard to remember. But they’re also impossible for IT team members to work with, which can slow down service delivery to end users. Password Manager Pro delivers an automated solution for both permanent and temporary use and makes it easy for IT to implement industrial strength passwords.”

According to the director of R&D at a major ManageEngine Password Manager Pro customer site, “The IT environment at our R&D facility includes hundreds of physical devices, virtual machines and virtual applications — each with its own 16-digit password. Our immediate requirement was to consolidate and secure all the administrative passwords in a centralized vault and establish access controls. Tracking ‘who’ has access and determining ‘when’ passwords are accessed were equally important to ensure accountability for access and actions. We set it up and deployed in our production environment in just two hours.”

Password Manager Pro in VM Environments

At many customer sites, physical devices and VMs are accessed and controlled by administrative accounts that grant unlimited privilege. However, most find the manual approach to storing, accessing and managing administrative passwords not only cumbersome and time-consuming, but also highly insecure. Though automation using a software solution is compelling for this problem, ease-of-use is critical for user adoption as adding intrusive controls to system access could adversely affect overall productivity.

Password Manager Pro brings an end to the convoluted manual password management practices. All the passwords of a company’s devices — including VMs, applications, storage devices, and service processes at the management stack level — are maintained in Password Manager Pro. Whenever passwords are required, administrators simply log in to Password Manager Pro to get secure access to the required passwords through a simple, intuitive web-interface.

A silver sponsor of the show, ManageEngine will be demonstrating ServiceDesk Plus and the Project Management beta module in booth number S5.

Making Large Projects in IT Departments Manageable

IT companies today face significant challenges in supporting operational processes and service management as individual, isolated activities. As an IT department scales up, it needs an integrated tool to manage large projects and implementations. Otherwise, individual projects may become silos of activity that inadvertently change configuration items and adversely impact related, critical applications or services.

“The need of the hour is the convergence of service desk and project management for large projects in IT organizations,” said Uma Shankar, director of product management at ManageEngine. “The Project Management module in ServiceDesk Plus breaks down the project and service silos. Now, ServiceDesk Plus provides IT organizations with an integrated solution that gives them provisioning access to resources, which fosters the frictionless delivery of IT services.”

The Project Management module in ServiceDesk Plus serves as the implementation tool to carry out IT changes identified in the application’s Change Management module. The Project Management module helps administrators and project managers create milestones and tasks on new projects and assign resources based on the requirements and availability.

The Project Management module can perform feasibility checks by cost estimation and resource management. In addition, the module tracks all the changes made and tasks completed through the help of a Gantt chart and Calendar View, and it documents the projects implemented in IT.
The advantages of service desk and project management fusion are highlighted in the recent webinar, “The Convergence of the Service Desk and the Project Management Office.” Featuring Charles Betz, research director of IT Portfolio Management at Enterprise Management Associates, and hosted by ManageEngine, the webinar shares insights, use cases and best practices for combining these two functions. A replay of the webinar is available at http://ow.ly/d2Gmg.

Pricing and Availability

The beta version of the ServiceDesk Plus Project Management module is available immediately, free of charge, for customers of ServiceDesk Plus Enterprise Edition. The production version of the Project Management module will be generally available later this year and will also be free for ServiceDesk Plus Enterprise Edition customers.

ManageEngine Applications Manager Gains Ruby on Rails Support

Posted on 23:36 by Unknown
ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today announced the immediate availability of Ruby on Rails support in its performance monitoring software package, Applications Manager. ManageEngine Ships Private Social Network Exclusively for IT

Posted on 03:57 by Unknown
ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today announced the general availability of ITPulse, the industry’s first private social network built exclusively for IT teams. ITPulse engages and socializes IT teams by establishing a one-stop, cascading wall for real-time display of IT infrastructure health and collaboration in a secure and fun environment.

Today’s lean IT model forces IT teams to make decisions on the fly, forcing them to ditch the traditional email-based communication systems and adopt instant collaboration tools such as Facebook-type social networks. However, concerns about data security make IT reluctant to adopt social networks for official communication.

To meet the unique communication needs of IT, ITPulse includes a Facebook-like wall for having discussions and sharing articles and videos in a private and restricted domain. Only users within the domain can access the wall, and the data shared are not leaked to the outside world.
